Manufacturers in Nebraska BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company)Manufacturing in America is getting increasingly more technical as time goes on, and few fields are more technical than medical technology. So when manufacturing and medicine are combined, it’s easy to imagine how quickly things could get interesting.

Adding to the list of big-name manufacturers in Nebraska, then, is medical technology company –Becton, Dickinson and Company.

BD, based in New Jersey, but with factories in , is a medical technology company that serves healthcare institutions, life science researchers, clinical laboratories, industry, and the general public. Their goal is to strengthen health care and increase access to health care in the developing world, and their products range from anesthesia products to diabetes products.

Here is some more information on BD’s four factories in Nebraska:

  • Broken Bow: BD’s Broken Bow facility is nearly 300,000 square feet and employs about 400 people. This location is for BD’s Diagnostics – Preanalytical Systems division. The products manufactured here include many variations of blood collection tubes, urine collection products, and anaerobic specimen collectors which are used to help for a quick and accurate analysis across a broad range of diseases.
  • Columbus (East): The Columbus East facility was constructed in 2002, employs roughly 750 people, and sizes up at about 230,000 square feet. This location is BD’s Medical – Pharmaceutical Systems facility where they develop an array of drug delivery systems that are critical to the integrity and delivery of medicine.
  • Columbus (West): The Columbus West facility holds the unique position of being BD’s first facility outside of New Jersey. It opened in 1949, and currently employs over 900 people over 550,000 square feet. The factory is home to BD Medical – Medical Surgical Systems, which holds the leading worldwide market position in hypodermic needles and syringes.
  • Holdredge: BD’s Holdredge facility is the largest employer in Nebraska’s Phelps County. They currently employ over 650 people over a 350,000 square foot building, producing over twenty different products, from insulin syringes to alcohol swabs.
