Manufacturers in Nebraska: Timpte

Manufacturers in Nebraska- TimpteAlthough it’s been a little while since we’ve done any profiles of the manufacturers here in Nebraska, we’re hardly out of great companies to talk about.

To pick up the series, today, we’re going to take a look at Timpte, a trailer manufacturer. Located in David City in Butler County, Nebraska, Timpte has a very rich history.

Timpte’s business spans all the way back to some time around 1880. Two brothers, William and August Timpte, arrived in Denver around that time, starting the the Timpte Brothers Wagon Company.

After producing wagons, buggies, and carriages for a brief period of time, the Timpte business changed with the invention of the automobile in the early 1900s. Then, the brothers began producing semi trailers, which continued on for some time until they became more like the company we see today.

The 50s saw a lot of innovation for Timpte, when they started producing what we think of as more modern trailers. Business continued, and then in 1980, the “era of the Super Hopper”–one of the company’s trailers–began when Timpte opened up their current factory in David City, Nebraska. Their factory today is state-of-the-art, and the company itself is a leader in grain trailers–a hot product in the Midwest, where farming is a staple.

From their founding in the late 1800s to their current operation here in Nebraska, Timpte has been an innovative manufacturer. And it’s always great to see a company with such a rich history operating right here in our backyard.

Timpte is a great company, a great manufacturer, and yet another great example of how local businesses like the manufacturers we feature here can help stimulate the local economy. Timpte is big in Butler County, and they do a lot for the economy of David City.

We can talk all day about how great manufacturing is (and trust us–we’ll continue to talk about that here on our blog), but sometimes, it’s great to see how manufacturing can actually have a positive impact on the community. And really, it doesn’t get much better than that.
